The sorority world is filled with numerous traditions, oddities and rituals that have been around since the discovery of sisterly love way back when. One such practice, the legacy bid, results in the admittance of a young woman into a sorority based on her kin's previous association with that same sorority - subsequently creating yet another identity for us to examine: "The Legacy."

In most circumstances, "The Legacy" is easily noticeable as the one girl who contradicts the general stereotype of her sorority (whether she's too fat, beaten with an ugly stick, socially inept, or just an outright L-7 weenie).

After initiation, "The Legacy" mentally blocks the fact that she was accepted because of her family connections, using blissful ignorance to disregard her many social and physical shortcomings. In order to justify to herself and others that she was a valuable addition to the sisterhood, she becomes highly involved in the day-to-day affairs of her chapter and pledges a large portion of her free time towards any and all sororitastic causes.

Sadly, when she's not around, the other sisters rationalize "The Legacy's" acceptance to others by always pointing out the fact she's the result of a legacy bid - sort of like Corky, the down-syndrome kid who you had to play with on your Pee-Wee football team because he was Coach's son.
